Todays Country music does not frequent my Spotify playlists. Although every once and while something sneaks up on me.
Music is a love of mine and I will listen to absolutely anything. However, I always swerve away from most new country artists. I have placed them all in the Pop Country bucket, which does not appeal to me. I’m a Classic Country guy (See Willie Nelson, Johhny Cash, and Patsy Cline)…But we all make mistakes.
I had no idea who Kacey Musgraves was until reading this SPIN article a few weeks ago. And even then, I didn’t open my Spotify app and listen to any of her music. I just figured she was another Pop Country artist so why bother. And, to a certain extent, you could classify her as such. But you and I would be wrong.
This is why you have to take the time and actually listen to the music.
Yesterday Butterflies popped up on one of my playlists and so I listened…and I listened again.
I really, really wanted to hate every note and lyric. But then I listened again. And then I took out my own guitar and learned the song so I could play along. I loved the melodies.
The song brought me back to feeling happy about relationships. A place I forgot existed after my experiences over the last few years.
The album is just plain good!
